bag 31 – claimed

The Sak makes another appearance in this crossbody pebbled leather bag with whipstitching. Small but rounded, so it holds a lot. There’s the central interior, and then the flap has a zipper which opens to a full pocket with patterned lining. Excellent for travel or other situations where you want to keep some items handy and some items close but safe. I’ve had this a while and used it lots, but I have other pebbled leather bags, and I have a gold one exactly like this one. Both from the thrift store although I saw them at TJ Maxx and almost bought one there but held out.

Today we’re coming to you from my office at Forward Movement. Yes that’s a Bishop Curry bobblehead staying protected from the elements along with other toys and manipulatives.

bag 19 – claimed

Here’s my other The Sak convertible purse – remember the one with the rainforest? Here it is in silver. Convertible in many ways – crossbody to shoulder bag to clutch; full size to envelope style. I got this new at TJ Maxx around 9 years ago for a high school reunion.

Ok, I’ll admit it – these photos are from a few years ago when I carried this purse during the 50 days of Easter. The cane in the pictures belonged to my dear mother-in-law Ida McKenney. She was visiting us a few years ago, and we went to Panera for lunch. Ida died last May, and I miss her terribly. Not only was she a great friend, but she stepped up her mom role for me after my mom died in 2001. We loved to go thrifting together wherever we were – her house in Connecticut, here in Cincinnati, or when we traveled.

Anyway, if shiny silver bags are your thing, email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 19.

bag 5 – claimed

The Sak makes some classic bags – lots of folks know the woven bags, and their various leather styles. This is a very cute convertible bag in a rainforest print. It’s coated cotton and can use the loops at the top for a larger bag or switch to the ones in the middle for a foldover purse. Take off the adustible strap for a clutch. I have another bag just like this in silver (watch for it). I love colorful bags, so if you love to wear basic colors this bag will give you a pop. If you like lots of patterns, well… go for it!

Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 5 if this calls to you.

Don’t forget – Sundays are feast days, and there will be no bag posting on Sundays unless I get in the mood for a bonus bag giveaway. It could happen.

day 6

Enjoyed lunch today at Mazunte with blog follower, Sands/Walnut mom and friend Tania C. If you’re in Cincinnati definitely check out Mazunte if you love delicious flavors. One of my favorite things to do is have lunch with my friends as i hand off a bag. I get a chance to visit with folks i don’t get to see often, because despite my best intentions, i’m relatively anti-social. I do my best but mostly it’s crowbar syndrome – it takes a crowbar to pry me out of the house once i get home, except to go walking, running or to the gym. Target needs a bar. No, Starbucks doesn’t count, unless you’re willing to go to Blue Ash.

Tania has followed this blog since the beginning, before i gave away bags and just created this Easter discipline for myself to see what would happen. Well, here’s what happened.

1. I enjoyed my bags like never before.

2. I realized i had way too many bags.

3. I started giving them away during Lent.

4. I still had too many, but bought fewer than before.

5. I shopped more at thrift stores and less at TJ Maxx.

6. Repeat for the next few years with inventory and shopping consistently going down.

7. I want to be more generous in more ways.

That’s the short version. As for today’s bag by sakroots, i bought it last year at goodwill. I have one just like it in silver leather that i got for a high school reunion at TJ Maxx and paid probably $30-$40. This one was $5. It’s got a lot of green, which attracted me, and what i tell you – the details are cool. It was buried under a bunch of shoes in my off-season closet in Nia’s room, which growing up was my mom’s closet. It’s one of those cool closets that goes over our family room, so it’s right under the roof and triangular in shape. I like the bag, but it’s a little small – i’m enjoying the pattern, and we’ll see if it ends up in next year’s giveaway or if something else green in my collection will get the boot.

day 3

This cute gold crossbody from the sak joined my Puma backpack today, which came in handy when it was time to go prom dress shopping with someone after work today. I found this at goodwill a couple of years ago. I like gold on a rainy day to bring a little faux sunshine into our lives. Find your way to bring sunshine to your rainy days. Red raincoats, yellow rain boots, and gold purses are how I do it.

bag 11 – claimed

Here’s a cute bag from The Sak: a structured hobo in their traditional silky knit material, with woven leather handles. Makes a good shoulder bag or carry over your arm. Please email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re interested in bag 11.

bag 2 – claimed

Every year for the past couple of years i’d put this bag into the giveaway, then take it back. This year, i put it in again and forgot why. Too late now, though, and it’s your gain. Convertible black purse from The Sak with woven leather handles. Wear crossbody or shoulder, or carry with the handles. Peace fabric lining. Modeled by my sweet angel Jaiya.

Email bag #2 to 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re interested.
