Bag 11

Sometimes a bag is such a great bargain, i can’t leave it in the thrift store. This Nine West shoulder bag contains a matching wrist wallet and a detachable keychain – what a bargain! I was going to keep the wristlet and get rid of the purse, but then i decided the set needed to stay a set. If you love pockets, pouches, and more organization, this is for you. Small bags like this can hold a lot when everything has its place.

Now don’t be put off by this moss/olivey color. It isn’t necessarily a great match with black, or brown, but if you wear it with a colorful top or dress, say with jeans or khakis, you’re styling. Oh and it’s VEGAN – the new lingo meaning it’s not made of leather. I love it. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you like this one.

Jaiya really loves to model, and Kaia likes taking photos. This time they wanted to get Spencer into the mix. So here you are. Life with these girls! The best!

bag #11

Since it’s Saturday, I’m going to reflect a bit on how this is going. But not before I introduce today’s bag, this Liz Claiborne chocolate-brown pleather duffle with gold hardware. I got this one at TJ Maxx maybe 6 or 7 years ago for $35. It’s got great interior organization with a zippered divider and 3 interior pockets. The handles are just long enough that they will fit on most shoulders (they fit on mine, so…). It’s about 15″ long.

This is a bag that I’m culling due to duplication. A true librarian knows that when you bring one in, one must go. Most librarians don’t practice this, though. And before you ask, once a librarian, always a librarian. I believe that since I had to get an advanced degree in it I can be it forever in my heart.

So on day 11, I can say that I really love giving bags away like this. I’ve had bag swaps in the past, and I’ve given bags to friends. I take stuff to Goodwill and to other charities on a regular basis. So giving is no new concept in my life, it’s part of who I am, who I was raised to be.

But giving away bags like this – this quantity to this many people who I know – is different and very cool, so far. Seeing the bag in action is what i love best. When I see my friends and they are carrying a bag from a purse swap or one that I just found and knew was perfect – and it is – it’s like I’m a WINNER! A matchmaker for people and bags. A bag whisperer.

But what kind of person is THAT? Who cares that much about bags and why? I care about bags that much, and have for so many years, because it’s the one piece of the fashion world that ALWAYS FITS. Beyond that, like everything, there’s the artistic elements: colors, quality, design, craftsmanship… thrifting, or bargain shopping in general, is like a treasure hunt. And many of you know that feeling when you strike it rich – it’s a feeling you want to repeat.

Alright, that’s enough musings for today – peace out, people.

TAKEN – thanks!

day 25

no-name faux patent leather hobo

it was hard to get up, being back on east coast time again was rough. my body is still in burbank. so when i overslept this morning, i couldn’t even think about what bag to choose. so i chose one of my to 5 of all time, this no-name black patent pleather bag with handles and a long strap. first of all, the pleats are cool looking, second, it holds a loooot of stuff and still looks polished, third, it was $19.99 at this tj maxx in w. hartford, ct.

i remember seeing it and grabbing it, along with a beautiful bag sort of like day 12. it was much more expensive. i decided on this one, and in line, someone tried to buy it from me. i knew then that i made the right choice.

the strap is like a belt, so it’s a crossbody and handle bag. bonus. it’s a bit cavernous inside, but that’s ok for me – and there are 4 interior pockets and pouches. i have used it so much, with it being cheap and faux it’s going to go eventually. i don’t want to be there when that happens.
