bag 40 – claimed

Today’s bag is a white Nine West shoulder bag with a frame bag in the middle with two outer zipper sections. A small scuff on the back is easily buffed away with polish. Modeled by Jaiya.

I hope you enjoyed my Lenten giveaway. I sure did, even though this Lent was yet again atypical. I wish you peace and blessings for the coming Easter season.

Please look back through the posts and see if there’s anything unclaimed that you’d like to have. Currently available are bags 6, 7, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 39 and 40. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re interested in any of those bags. They will go to Dress for Success next week.

Starting tomorrow I’ll be using a different bag every day for the 50 days of Easter. Looking back on the bags I’ve done through the last five years, many that I used in the 50 days of Easter end up in the 40 days of Lent giveaway. I’m excited to see how this year goes, and what more I’ll learn through this process. Happy Easter!

bag 38 – claimed

Here’s a cute backpack from MMS. Canvas exterior with goldtone studs, brown pleather trim. Found it at Goodwill for $8 in the backpack section. If you like backpack purses, i advise you to check in that section because they are often overlooked by people needing a larger, traditional backpack. Full disclosure – it has a little stain on the bottom. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re interested in bag 38.

bag 1 – claimed

It’s Valentine’s Day on Ash Wednesday, so let’s start with a bag I purchased a few weeks ago at my favorite Goodwill. I was headed to a birthday party for a couple of my friends and knew the perfect gift would be a bag. I walked in with seven minutes to make my purchase before the store closed. I quickly grabbed four purses, including this cute red baby. It’s a no-name purse, but well made and very cute with moc croc and a puffy heart. Footed, adjustable strap, and lots of interior organization for such a small bag. Well, it’s small to me. Plenty of room for your purse basics. Those of you who know me know i need something to fit my water bottle. But this WILL fit a LaCroix. Modeled by my sweet angel babe Jaiya!! She’s almost 5’9″ for your reference.

The rules:

  1. follow the rules.
  2. email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag # if you’d like to claim it.
  3. i deliver or mail to you.
  4. please do not send me a message on facebook, text me, or corner me except to say “i emailed you at 50favbags@gmail.com.”
  5. how come i keep repeating the same thing? because, my loved friends, five years have taught me. repetition is important.
  6. any bags not claimed will go to a good cause, unless they end up in a box under my desk at work. then, they go back into next year’s rotation, or to a friend who needs a spur-of-the-moment bag to go to the opera.

This year should be truly sacrificial. I don’t buy nearly as much as i used to. I mean i have cut my purchasing by 90%. It’s serious. I still get the urge to shop, but i act like a kid in a toy store with parents who say “don’t expect me to buy anything.” i play with the purses, appreciate them, take random pics, then leave it somewhere i know it will be found, purchased, and loved.

Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with BAG 1 if you like this red heart cutie.

Bag 11

Sometimes a bag is such a great bargain, i can’t leave it in the thrift store. This Nine West shoulder bag contains a matching wrist wallet and a detachable keychain – what a bargain! I was going to keep the wristlet and get rid of the purse, but then i decided the set needed to stay a set. If you love pockets, pouches, and more organization, this is for you. Small bags like this can hold a lot when everything has its place.

Now don’t be put off by this moss/olivey color. It isn’t necessarily a great match with black, or brown, but if you wear it with a colorful top or dress, say with jeans or khakis, you’re styling. Oh and it’s VEGAN – the new lingo meaning it’s not made of leather. I love it. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you like this one.

Jaiya really loves to model, and Kaia likes taking photos. This time they wanted to get Spencer into the mix. So here you are. Life with these girls! The best!

bag #11

Since it’s Saturday, I’m going to reflect a bit on how this is going. But not before I introduce today’s bag, this Liz Claiborne chocolate-brown pleather duffle with gold hardware. I got this one at TJ Maxx maybe 6 or 7 years ago for $35. It’s got great interior organization with a zippered divider and 3 interior pockets. The handles are just long enough that they will fit on most shoulders (they fit on mine, so…). It’s about 15″ long.

This is a bag that I’m culling due to duplication. A true librarian knows that when you bring one in, one must go. Most librarians don’t practice this, though. And before you ask, once a librarian, always a librarian. I believe that since I had to get an advanced degree in it I can be it forever in my heart.

Email 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re interested.

So on day 11, I can say that I really love giving bags away like this. I’ve had bag swaps in the past, and I’ve given bags to friends. I take stuff to Goodwill and to other charities on a regular basis. So giving is no new concept in my life, it’s part of who I am, who I was raised to be.

But giving away bags like this – this quantity to this many people who I know – is different and very cool, so far. Seeing the bag in action is what i love best. When I see my friends and they are carrying a bag from a purse swap or one that I just found and knew was perfect – and it is – it’s like I’m a WINNER! A matchmaker for people and bags. A bag whisperer.

But what kind of person is THAT? Who cares that much about bags and why? I care about bags that much, and have for so many years, because it’s the one piece of the fashion world that ALWAYS FITS. Beyond that, like everything, there’s the artistic elements: colors, quality, design, craftsmanship… thrifting, or bargain shopping in general, is like a treasure hunt. And many of you know that feeling when you strike it rich – it’s a feeling you want to repeat.

Alright, that’s enough musings for today – peace out, people.

TAKEN – thanks!

day 25

no-name faux patent leather hobo

it was hard to get up, being back on east coast time again was rough. my body is still in burbank. so when i overslept this morning, i couldn’t even think about what bag to choose. so i chose one of my to 5 of all time, this no-name black patent pleather bag with handles and a long strap. first of all, the pleats are cool looking, second, it holds a loooot of stuff and still looks polished, third, it was $19.99 at this tj maxx in w. hartford, ct.

i remember seeing it and grabbing it, along with a beautiful bag sort of like day 12. it was much more expensive. i decided on this one, and in line, someone tried to buy it from me. i knew then that i made the right choice.

the strap is like a belt, so it’s a crossbody and handle bag. bonus. it’s a bit cavernous inside, but that’s ok for me – and there are 4 interior pockets and pouches. i have used it so much, with it being cheap and faux it’s going to go eventually. i don’t want to be there when that happens.
