day 42

Shopping at Clothes Mentor always teaches me something. I’d never heard of Linea Pelle until I looked up the brand while considering whether or not to buy this purse. Once I zipped and unzipped the zippers a few times and finally stopped touching this supersoft leather, I decided it was worth the $14 they were asking. Plus, I love perforated bags. Period.

Today I checked online an found this bag in cognac on Poshmark for $70. You can find others on Amazon ranging from $198-$245, unless you want vegan.

I love everything about this bag except one thing. It’s heavy. I have some physical issues that require me to lighten my load. The only way I can do that with this bag is to take off the shoulder strap and carry it like a satchel. That means I don’t use it as often as I’d like. But maybe I can carry it around the house.

bag 2

This Liz Claiborne bag packs lots of details into a little bag. Zoom in and view the strap detail, small studs, buckles, and the signature Liz Claiborne brushed logo. I think I got this one at Goodwill, but honestly, I can’t remember so it may have been St. Vincent.

I have several LC bags and have given lots away because they are high quality, beautiful, strong bags with the softest leather. As Jaiya says, periodt.

These photos are from last Eastertide during the 50 favorite bags part. My Toyota Sienna died last June, and I got a new car just before the new year. So I wanted to honor my car of 13+ years by sharing some pics while I give away some bags.

If you’d like this bag, email me at 50favbags@gmail.com and say bag 2, your name, your address. Thanks!

I picked up this little baby at Valley Thrift and come on… Fossil, beads on the strap and zipper pull, the key is amazing; it’s all so adorable and classy. I am not leaving it there for $2.99. I know I used it at least once because the price tag is inside the bag, but I can’t remember when that was. So goodbye to thee, sweet baby. You are sooooo cute.

Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you’re into bag 8.

day 6

Enjoyed lunch today at Mazunte with blog follower, Sands/Walnut mom and friend Tania C. If you’re in Cincinnati definitely check out Mazunte if you love delicious flavors. One of my favorite things to do is have lunch with my friends as i hand off a bag. I get a chance to visit with folks i don’t get to see often, because despite my best intentions, i’m relatively anti-social. I do my best but mostly it’s crowbar syndrome – it takes a crowbar to pry me out of the house once i get home, except to go walking, running or to the gym. Target needs a bar. No, Starbucks doesn’t count, unless you’re willing to go to Blue Ash.

Tania has followed this blog since the beginning, before i gave away bags and just created this Easter discipline for myself to see what would happen. Well, here’s what happened.

1. I enjoyed my bags like never before.

2. I realized i had way too many bags.

3. I started giving them away during Lent.

4. I still had too many, but bought fewer than before.

5. I shopped more at thrift stores and less at TJ Maxx.

6. Repeat for the next few years with inventory and shopping consistently going down.

7. I want to be more generous in more ways.

That’s the short version. As for today’s bag by sakroots, i bought it last year at goodwill. I have one just like it in silver leather that i got for a high school reunion at TJ Maxx and paid probably $30-$40. This one was $5. It’s got a lot of green, which attracted me, and what i tell you – the details are cool. It was buried under a bunch of shoes in my off-season closet in Nia’s room, which growing up was my mom’s closet. It’s one of those cool closets that goes over our family room, so it’s right under the roof and triangular in shape. I like the bag, but it’s a little small – i’m enjoying the pattern, and we’ll see if it ends up in next year’s giveaway or if something else green in my collection will get the boot.

Real Coach bags in the thrift store are hard to come by. I believe this one is real. It’s cute, and little, so you know what that means… email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 29.

bag 21

Catching up on my giveaway – bag 21 is a vintage find. If you like animal print, check out this Brio! fabric bag with leather trim,┬ácinched sides, velvet interior and gold hardware. Two thin leather straps will fit most arms. Almost said all arms but hey… realist┬áhere. This bag would go well with all black or a colorful outfit that needs that wow factor. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 21 if you like it. Modeled by Kaia, and the flash nearly blinded her.

bag 14 – claimed

Cynthia Rowley leather bag with lots of hardware. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 14.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to keep up this year. Peace all.

Bag 29 – taken

B. Makowsky large hobo falls in the too heavy category for me. It’s gorgeous. Zipper details, silver strap details, leopard print lining, three sections inside with pockets. It can be a little black hole-ish*, but it’s the price you pay for style. Email me at 50favbags@gmail.com if you like this one.

*don’t drop your keys down there.

Bag 25 – taken

Target started teaming up with designers several years ago for limited edition, affordable product lines. Here’s one from Botkier, whose bags can run from $200-1500 for out of print versions. I like this little faux snakeskin bag, the details are very moto rocker. Clasp and zipper closure, chain strap, interior pockets and two snap exterior pouches. Would make a great evening bag for an edgier look. Of course it would look fabulous dressed down, too. Now, i wouldn’t have thought i would part with this, but the truth is, i found Miu Miu purse to serve the same function. So, there could only be one. Let me know if you’re feeling this botkier baby by emailing me at 50favbags@gmail.com.

Got my boot off today; now rehab can begin. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

day 16

fossil black pebbled leather shoulder bag/crossbody

confession: i hit my favorite goodwill hard yesterday. it was purse city in there. before i knew what was happening, i had maybe 10 or so bags on my arm for closer inspection. there were so many good bags i had to leave behind… i’m trying to not “rescue” bags from goodwill anymore. i left with three, and this was one of them.

so by now you know i have a thing for pebbled leather, grommets. but have i mentioned my zipper test? the mark of a truly quality bag is that the zippers zip and unzip smoothly. in fact, i have a one handed test – if i can zip and unzip the zipper without having to hold the bag, it’s usually a high-end bag and i will likely own it. try it with your bag(s). calvin klein really knows his zippers. so does fossil, maker of this bag. they just get it so, so right with the hardware. not garish, like some bags i won’t mention by full name (kvz) but tastefully obvious.

i haven’t even mentioned the myriad pockets and pouches, and it holds my stuff, water bottle and magazines. $12, but half off means i paid $6. what! another score!

i try not to get too excited when i’m in the store, but when i got to the car i was a purse zipping fool. yes, people, it truly is the little things.

and now, three other black pebbled leather bags are in a pile of bags to go. feels good.
