day 38

Rebecca Minkoff leather and leopard print denim tote

20130508-235137.jpgthis Rebecca Minkoff tote was just lying around at the st. vincent de paul, wanting to get bought by me for $5.99. what was i supposed to do? leave it there? it’s got black pebbled leather. no contest. checked online, and it’s still for sale for $98. what!

this was a contender to go with me on either of my recent trips, because it’s packable, fashionable, and ample. but, i wanted to save it until i was in the 30s. i actually changed my outfit once i decided to war this one today.

kids with asthma get good meds, and start feeling energized and all better. moms of kids with asthma don’t get those good drugs so they are usually exhausted.

logistical nutshell:¬†drop j off at school, work, pick n & k up from home to take n to work, go back home for the forgotten cello, take k to yagoot, pick up j, back to work, take k to cello, visit a friends’ church for spaghetti dinner, pick up k, drop k off at dad’s for pick up by d, take j to choir, stop by tj maxx, go to dad’s to help with taxes, pick up j, then home to do n’s hair for 3 hours. y’all saw the bright spot, right?

no, i’m thankful for the opportunity and ability to be there for my girls and my dad. and, myself for 20 minutes at tj maxx. no, i didn’t buy any purses!

day 37

navy B. Makowsky tote with room for almost everything

on wednesdays, my youngest has choir downtown near where i work. it’s too short for me to justify driving home and back for her, and it’s too close to a tj maxx for me not to go visit it for a few minutes. one night, i was strolling through the purses, and i saw a b. makowsky bag on clearance for $49. $49?!? what the heck? i know my clearance rack, and i’ve NEVER seen a bag like that on clearance that cheap. some of you know what i’m talking about.

now, $49 is way more than i like to pay for a bag. but tj maxx has this facebook contest where if you find a great deal and submit it on their website, your deal can be chosen to be voted on by facebook fans to be the deal of the week. the winner gets a $50 gift card. so i thought to myself, i’ll enter this contest, and if i win, it’s like the bag is kind of free. right? it’s navy, which isn’t a huge part of my wardrobe. i don’t usually like chains, but i liked the modern look of the links on this bag.¬†after walking around for a half an hour talking myself into it i went for it. i decided that if i didn’t win, i had time to return it.

well, i won the contest. it was very exciting! watching the fb people – choosing which deal they liked best, reading the comments – was thrilling. i watched all weekend and by monday, i knew i had that $50 gift card. i felt great! it was very affirming. i have a not-so-secret passion for fashion and the industry. i have no idea how i can participate but i would love to try.

today the bag was loaded up for a busy day that included the doctor’s office with my oldest, who had a severe asthma attack. fortunately, she’s feeling a little better. thank you, God, for great physicians. it ended with my youngest’s band concert. those kids were amazing. it’s an easy day for counting my many, many blessings. i can’t do that enough. peace.

day 24

eddie bauer backpack

eddie bauer backpack with my blessed water bottle

my eddie bauer backpack comes to the rescue once again. my brown leather laptop bag’s strap broke, so i went to my old standby. it takes a licking and keeps on hauling all of my stuff. i remember getting this at the eddie bauer outlet store in jeffersonville, oh several years ago – maybe 10 or more – because i loved the color. while green is my favorite, and i love purple too, there’s nothing like mustard or yellow to brighten my mood.

when my oldest n was a toddler, she was diagnosed with asthma. i read that yellow is good for asthmatics in some book about decorating with color. i can’t remember why, and i didn’t mention it to her. when we moved into our house a couple of years later, she announced that she wanted to paint her room yellow. so we did! i don’t know if it helped her asthma or not, but i can’t say that it hurt. within three years, her symptoms were virtually nonexistent. we never repainted the room. i don’t mess with stuff like that.

so i’m home again, after several long and productive days. so this photo is of the bag where i will soon be – in my bed, hitting a z. thanks be to God. peace.
