bag 24 – claimed

Yesterday I mentioned a practice I’ve deployed in years past when I’ve looked at my bags and decided I didn’t want to get rid of any of them. I’ll go to the thrift store and get a few for the sole purpose of the giveaway. Some of you might think “hey, that’s cheating!” – to which I reply, “it’s my giveaway, I make the rules.” We’re both sorta right.

Sometimes, I’m traveling and need an extra bag because I didn’t take enough photos or didn’t bring enough bags – spring breaks in Connecticut at David’s parents’ house comes to mind. My mother-in-law loved to thrift, and we usually hit at least one thrift store while I was there. God rest her soul, those days are gone.

Now, I have no choice but to dig deep and keep going with my Lenten discipline. When things get tough, we’re called to do the same. It might not seem like a difficult thing for many people, but I’m not many people. I’m the only me there is. The next seventeen days of this giveaway, you can believe I’m sacrificing things I’ve grown to enjoy. And that’s ok. There’s much more at stake than my bags these days, so I can woman up and give of what I have.

This virus reminds us that things don’t mean as much as people. Last night, after getting the news that my COVID-19 test came back negative, I got the best sleep in over two weeks. But then again, my bags are art. They give me comfort. We all have those things that provide us with comfort, no matter how much we have or don’t have. More critical than bags are my three loved and surly children. And my husband, who may or may not put the soap back in the right spot. And all my dear family and friends. So on with the giveaway.

Here’s a cute pastel yellow (trust me) Fossil bag for someone who loves a place for everything. Large inner pouch, front flap pocket, back zipper pocket with credit card slots, and room for more stuff – this bag will keep you organized. The leather is thick and soft. The adjustable strap of cotton canvas and leather converts from shoulder bag to crossbody. $6.99 at St. Vincent de Paul. I was just about to put my stuff into it and use it, but whatever. I have another yellow bag that I bought myself for Christmas a few years ago by the SAK, so it’s all good.

If you like this bag, email me at 50favbags@gmail.com with bag 24, your name, your address. Thanks and peace.
